Our Story

OVER 50 YEARS OF HISTORY

At Teague Mineral Products, we are a proud family-owned business that started in 1971. Our legacy started with Glen Teague who discovered large, previously unknown deposits of sodium bentonite and Clinoptilolite zeolite, which we mine today in Eastern Oregon and Western Idaho. From the very beginning, Glen and Marie Teague, instilled in our family the values of hard work and perseverance, never giving up on their dream. Thanks to their dedication, our company has been successfully operating for over 50 years in our corner of Oregon.

OUR FOUNDATION

Glen and Marie Teague began their American Dream years before Teague Mineral Products was formed. Getting into the industrial minerals business was prefaced with experiences in hard rock mining. Glen started a freelance backhoe business in the 1960’s. This enabled him to start prospecting in the Succor Creek, Adrian, Oregon area, where he discovered large deposits of sodium Bentonite. After filing mining claims on the deposits, Glen and Marie started Teague Mineral Products in 1971, with a small plant in the side-yard of their Nyssa, Oregon home.

OUR BEGINNINGS
Glen and Marie continued operating their backhoe business until 1973 when they moved to a site two miles south of Adrian, Oregon and constructed a building to hold their small mill. In 1981, with the help of an SBA loan, they expanded the operation and put in a Raymond roller mill and were then in the bentonite business full-time. They took on another mineral, clinoptilolite zeolite, shortly after getting the big mill running. Teague Mineral Products is one of only about a dozen producers of natural zeolites in the US. In 1980, they put in a granule mill, which eventually lead to the development of Perma Plug Bentonite for water wells. In 2012, they added well gravel pack to their line of water well products.
WOMAN-OWNED BUSINESS

I took on a leading role in Teague Mineral Products in 2005 as General Manager, following in the footsteps of my parents, Glen and Marie Teague. Sadly, my father passed away in 2014, leaving me to oversee the day-to-day operations. Today, Teague Mineral Products is a truly woman-owned and operated business, and what began as my parents’ American Dream has become my own.

With the third generation now involved, and if they should wish to carry on, the dream will be alive for them, as well.

Our Facilities

We have the mill capacity to produce a full range of products. We use a Raymond mill for powdered bentonite and zeolite, while our granule products are processed in an adjacent plant. Our shipments include various-sized craft bags, bulk bags, and bulk loads to meet our customers’ needs. We also have an in-house laboratory for quality control testing and sample preparation, and for specialized work, we rely on trusted outside labs.

Technical Services

We specialize  in stimulating and coordinating research in both the public and private sectors, providing ideas, technical information and samples to interested parties.

SODIUM BENTONITES

Since 1971, we have specialized in producing premium sealant grade sodium bentonite for a variety of projects requiring impermeable barriers. We relocated to expand our mill facility to two miles south of Adrian OR. In 1982. we installed a 5057 Raymond mill which allowed our company to produce bentonite for larger projects. In 1985, we drilled and developed another bentonite deposit which offered superior performance as a soil sealant without chemical or polymer additives and resists ionic solutions.

NATURAL ZEOLITES

We began producing Clinoptilolite zeolite in 1975 and currently mine two distinctly different deposits, XY and CH. Though a relatively small company, we are one of the leading producers of natural Zeolite in North America. We provide “clino” for a wide variety of applications such as anticaking agent, cat litter, chemical carriers and odor control uses. Additionally, we produce zeolite feed supplements for chickens, cows and other animals. Our environmental applications include heavy metal/radionuclide sorption and hazardous waste solidification/stabilization. These environmental applications overlap with agricultural applications when used as a soil amendment for reduction of fertilizer use and consequent reduction of non-point pollution from agricultural lands.

We are Friends of the Environment
  • Our products are dried naturally with the sun and wind.
  • We work closely with state and federal government to be responsible stewards of the land.
  • We reseed topsoil reclaimed areas with native seeds to sustain our award-winning land reclamation.
  • We have received many awards including: special recognition from the U.S. Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management – for stewardship in mineral development of public land and the Outstanding Reclamation Award from the Oregon Department of Geology.

“For meritorious stewardship in conduct of mineral development on the public lands, and for sustained quality of environmental management, surface protection, conservation of other resources, and maintenance of public safety in conduct of operations."

Certifications and Affiliations

Our well sealants are certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 60: Drinking Water Treatment Chemicals — Health Effects. This is the most accepted and stringent certification program for chemicals used that come in contact with municipal drinking water.
